WHAT IS

STEM CELL THERAPY FOR
PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY

If your neuropathy symptoms persist despite standard care, you’re not alone. Medications and lifestyle measures help many people, but not everyone finds enough relief, and that has led more patients to explore regenerative options like stem cell therapy.

PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY

Living with neuropathy is hard, and you don't have to manage it in silence.

No matter where you are in your journey, learn how regenerative medicine may fit into your care.

Some patients report improvements in their symptoms, including:

Eliminate numbness, prickling, or tingling in your feet or hands.

Eliminate sharp, jabbing, throbbing or burning pain.

Extreme sensitivity to touch.

Reduced pain during activities that shouldn’t cause pain, such as pain in your feet when putting weight on them or when they’re under a blanket.

Eliminate feeling as if you’re wearing gloves or socks when you’re not.

What Is Neuropathy?

Neuropathy, or peripheral neuropathy, refers to various conditions affecting the peripheral nervous system, which is the network that transmits signals between the brain, spinal cord, and other body parts. It involves nerve damage that disrupts communication in three main ways:

  • Loss of normal nerve signals (like a cut wire)
  • Unintended signals when none should occur (like static on a phone line)
  • Distorted signals that alter the intended message (like a fuzzy TV image)

How Stem Cell Therapy for Neuropathy Works

Our approach uses mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and other regenerative components to support nerve health through multiple mechanisms.

The Cells We Use

Our approach uses mesenchymal stem cells which researchers believe work mainly through signaling rather than by becoming new nerve tissue. They release growth factors, cytokines, and exosomes, which are tiny messenger particles that may support the body’s own repair processes in the surrounding area.

Calming the Immune Response

When nerve damage has an autoimmune component, these cells are also being studied for their ability to influence the immune system, helping shift it from a pro-inflammatory state toward an anti-inflammatory one. The goal is to create a better environment for nerves and potentially reduce further damage.

Why Blood Flow Matters

Neuropathy, especially diabetic neuropathy, is closely tied to circulation. Nerve damage can interfere with how the body regulates blood flow, and poor circulation can in turn make neuropathy symptoms worse. Addressing both problems together is why we pair stem cells with another therapy.

Microvascular Tissue (MVT)

MVT is an injectable tissue graft used to support the tiny blood vessels in the hands and feet. By improving the local blood supply, it may help create a healthier environment for tissue repair, which could contribute to symptom relief for some patients.

Results vary. These therapies are still being studied and are not a proven cure for neuropathy.

Regenerative Care as a Complement to Medical Treatment

A 2024 meta-analysis that pooled human studies on diabetic peripheral neuropathy found gains in several measures, including nerve conduction, the ability to sense vibration, and scores on the Toronto Clinical Scoring System. Clinicians use that scale to gauge how severe neuropathy is, based on symptoms, reflexes, and sensation.

These results are promising, but they don’t mean stem cell therapy cures neuropathy. It’s better viewed as one possible part of a broader plan that also addresses the underlying cause of nerve damage, physical rehabilitation, symptom management, and regular follow-up.

What Researchers Are Learning About Inflammation and Nerve Protection

Most studies of stem cells in long-term conditions center on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). These adult cells are not thought to rebuild nerves directly. Instead, they appear to influence the body’s own repair processes through chemical signaling.

When MSCs encounter inflamed or damaged tissue, they are believed to respond by releasing growth factors and other signaling proteins. Researchers are investigating whether these substances can:

Improve circulation around damaged nerves

Calm excessive inflammation

Shield nerve tissue from further harm

Create conditions that favor recovery

This research offers one possible explanation for the growing interest in stem cell therapy as a supportive option for neuropathy. Still, larger and more rigorous trials are needed before anyone can say what results patients should realistically expect.
