COPD, abbreviated for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is a chronic inflammatory lung disease comprising various lung conditions. COPD blocks your airway, and as a result, you have trouble breathing, cough frequently, produce more mucus, and suffer from wheezing.
Underlying conditions, such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis, are the most common links to COPD. The cause of COPD is usually linked back to prolonged exposure to gases or tiny pieces of particle pollution, the most common example being cigarette smoke.
When the tiny sacs around the lungs begin to deteriorate gradually, that leads to emphysema. Those tiny sacs are called alveoli, and they are critical for facilitating the exchange of oxygen. However, when it comes to chronic bronchitis, this condition affects the lining of the bronchial tubes. Those tubes are responsible for carrying air to and from the alveoli.
A condition less often associated with COPD but can still be a cause is chronic asthma. Some studies have been able to link severe asthma in childhood to COPD in adulthood.
While there is no cure for COPD, and it progresses over time, you can treat the symptoms. The most common symptoms of COPD include:
Today, there are several different treatments, from steroids and antibiotics to supplemental oxygen and medications.
Stem Cell Therapy, while not a cure for COPD, may be able to alleviate your chronic symptoms. Researches continue to study stem cell therapy for COPD because of its potential to naturally heal the body.
Stem cells administered with an IV can replace lost or damaged cells. This has the potential to not only help heal the damaged area but it can also help prevent further degeneration of cells with little to no side effects.
While some research has shown promising results and some patients have been successful with stem cell therapy for managing symptoms of COPD, it is not approved by the FDA. However, if you think you may benefit from stem cell therapy, please consult with your doctor. You can also contact our team at Cendant Stem Cell Center.
